London Economic Conference

The London Economic Conference was a meeting that took place in the summer of 1933 between sixty six nations. The conference’s point was to improve the failing worlds economy. Had the same goals as reciprocal trade agreements act.
Good Neighbor Policy

The Good Neighbor Policy was Roosevelt's policy that he used to get goodwill in Latin America and Mexico. It was extremely successful and contributed to Roosevelt’s success, he hurt American tycoons and gained international goodwill. This was geared toward economic success, just like the London Economic Conference.
Reciprocal Trade Agreements act

The Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act was passed by congress in 1934, this act was used for relief and recovery of the American economy. It was supposed to increase exports from the U.S. and took place shortly after the London Economic Conference.
Rome-Berlin Axis

This was between Hitler and Mussolini was called the Rome-Berlin Axis. This pact was important in setting the stage for World War II and was a deadly culmination of power. Future coalitions such as the Hitler-Stalin pact were yet to come to fruition at this time.
Johnson Debt Default Act

This act was a law passed in 1934 that prohibited the U.S. from loaning money to countries that had already defaulted on a loan previously. This act was passed in the same year as the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act and aimed to improve the nation's economy.
Neutrality Acts of 1935, 1936, and 1937

These acts all aimed to keep the United States neutral in WWII. Forbearing things like selling war materials to a nation in war, and declaring U.S. citizens traveled at their own risk were notable things this act did. The Lend-Lease bill went against the neutrality acts principles.
Abraham Lincoln Brigade

The Abraham Lincoln Brigade was all the US citizens who volunteered as soldiers to fight in the Spanish civil war. Volunteers began arriving in Spain in 1937, and violated Roosevelt's ideals expressed in the early neutrality acts.
Quarantine Speech

A speech given by FDR in Chicago in October 5, 1937. Roosevelt called for a “quarantine” of the aggressive Rome-Berlin axis powers.
Appeasement

This was a policy that the leaders of France and Britain followed at the Conference in Munich in September 1938. The purpose of the Conference was to avoid war. This didn't work out because six months later Adolf Hitler destroyed Czechoslovakia.
Hitler-Stalin pact

The Hitler-Stalin pact was a non aggression agreement between the Soviets and the Nazi’s during World War II. The 2 countries actually ended up in battle with each other, and the agreement was never trusted very much by either side. Russia ended up benefiting from the Lend-Lease bill when the countries ended up in battle.
Neutrality Act of 1939

The neutrality act of 1939 basically reversed the neutrality acts of 1935,36, and 37. Roosevelt asked for arms trade on cash and carry principles in congress, and congress delivered this act.
Kristallnacht

"The Night of Broken Glass”, Kristallnacht was a series of anti-Jewish riots that broke out on November 9 and 10, 1938. The riots took place in Germany, Austria, and other Germany occupied areas. Contributed to the support for the Neutrality Act of 1939.
War Refugee Board

A board created by FDR after the war was coming to an end in 1944. the boards job was to aid civilian victims of the Rome-Berlin axis powers.
Lend-Lease Bill

The Lend-Lease bill was a bill passed by the United states during World War II that allowed the U.S. to lend and/or sell weapons and war supplies to the allied countries opposing the Rome-Berlin axis.
Atlantic Charter

A document drafted by U.S. and British leaders that defined the Allied powers goals for World War II. It was issued on August 14, 1941 and gave the Allies a powerful framework to oppose the Rome-Berlin axis with.
Pearl Harbor

A Japanese bomber attack on part of the U.S. mainland. This was pivotal because it enraged America into joining the war in full force, which was a death sentence for the Rome-Berlin axis and their allies. Japan would continue to fight the U.S. until Truman’s decision to use the Nuclear bomb.
