weapons of mass destruction
Weapons of mass destruction are weapons that make no distinction between killing civilians and combatants. Chemical weapons and nuclear bombs are among this group. The Democratic Leadership Council would be against this.

Democratic leadership council was formed by Clinton and some of his other centrist democrats. The council focused on strong anti-crime policy, growth, and strong defense; especially against Weapons of Mass Destruction’s.
"Don't Ask, Don't tell"
A policy adopted by the U.S. that accepted soldiers no matter their sexuality, without officially acknowledging their presence. The act was finally repealed in 2010 and was part of the Democratic leadership council’s focus on building a stronger military.
Oklahoma city bombing
This bombing took place at the federal office in Oklahoma City, taking 168 lives. Acts of terror like this would lead up to 9/11, one of the worst terrorist events to ever take place
contract with America
Contract with America was the Republican policy opposing the Democratic leadership council's influence. The policy promised to lower the budget and the deficit, even wage an all out war on it.
welfare reform bill
This bill was a huge conservative victory that Clinton and his Democratic leadership council reluctantly had to agree to. The bill attacked the lucrative welfare budget to try and lower the deficit.
north American free trade agreement
Called NAFTA this agreement was between Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. to open up trade between the countries. Contract with America fit within NAFTA’s ideals.
world trade organization
World Trade Organization was similar to NAFTA’s ideals of free trade, Clinton then passed the World Trade Organization to try and open up free trade even more than his administration already had.
whitewater
Whitewater was a scandal that Clinton and the Democratic leadership council had to face. Whitewater was a real estate deal that Clinton was involved in that was being investigated, even though no indictments ever happened.
Lewinsky affair
This was another scandal like Whitewater during Clinton’s administration, Clinton faced horrible political pressure for his relationship with his secretary Monica Lewinsky. And then he lied about it. The Lewinsky affair even led to 11 possible grounds for impeachment.
kyoto treaty
The Kyoto Treaty was a treaty that was designed to try and keep the atmosphere vivacious. Limits on greenhouse gas emissions and things of that nature were negotiated by Clinton and his Democratic leadership council.
9/11
September 11 2001. One of the most earth shattering events of terrorism ever to take place Al Qaeda operatives hijacked and crashed two planes into the two twin towers on this date.

Al Qaeda was a terrorist organization endorsed by Saddam Hussein. Al Qaeda was responsible for the attack that took place on 9/11.

This act was brought into American policy right after 9/11. It focused on anti-terrorist measures and allowed the government more rights to gather information on possible terrorists.

Department of Homeland Security was created by Congress right after passing the USA patriot act. the Department’s goal was to keep America safe, and fight terrorism within our borders.
Guantanamo detention camp
The camp that American military ran for captured Taliban soldiers. these soldiers did not get their legal rights and would be kept at the camp against their will, similar to the Abu Graib prison.
abu ghraib prison
Abu Ghraib prison was a prison operated by U.S. military. Torture and other questionable intelligence gathering methods took place here, in response to Al Qaeda’s threat.
no child left behind act
Bush championed this act in 2002 which provided incentive for schools to try and have more of their students pass. Bush used this and his war on Al Qaeda to try and keep himself popular in the polls.
hurricane Katrina
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating hurricane that hit New Orleans and wiped out tons of the city. The ARRA act was passed partly in response to Hurricane Katrina.
deleveraging
Aggressive financial measures that went into effect right after the 2008 real estate crash. The ARRA also was trying to counteract the intense levels of deleveraging.
American relief and recovery act
The ARRA was a huge stimulus bill that was designed to improve the U.S. economy. To counteract deleveraging and the 2008 crash, the ARRA was passed.
Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
President Obama’s act to try and achieve his health care reform. Passed right after the ARRA, both bills marked huge changes in economic policy in the U.S.
Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act
This bill was a huge overhaul of the way American economics worked at the time, it came shortly after the PPACA and Obama narrowly managed to get it through Congress.
